Kosta Lindstrand/Strand Three Cranes Engraved Crystal Vase From Sweden

$259.00

This hand blown, hand engraved Swedish vase was likely made in the 1960s at Kosta Glassworks. It is a wonderful depiction of a trio of cranes engraved all around the vase. This piece is signed R. Strand Kosta, and it is 7 inches wide, 9.5 inches tall, and just over 3 pounds. It is in very good condition, except for a pair of small scratches, as shown in the photos.

In the late 1940s, the skilled glass artist and craftsman, Rune Strand, was inspired by his neighbor the dentist to invent a pen-style engraver. The engraving technique using this new tool is sometimes called dental drill engraving, and this piece was made with that method. Strand had been an engraver at Strömbergshyttan when Vicke Lindstrand recruited him to come to Kosta to engrave his new designs. Lindstrand designed the vase with the single crane, and Strand engraved it. I presume Strand redesigned the piece to include three cranes, and thus he is named as designer.
